Yes there is! Let me drop some knowledge on how to supercharge your downloading experience without the need for torrenting. Yes, you can download your TV shows (including Game of Thrones, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family) and movies without torrents at speeds that are much faster and more reliable.

Before I advocate my method of downloading stuff, I thought I’d share my experience with torrents. I personally stopped using torrents back in 2009. My reasons for avoiding torrents were two-fold:

Also, another thing that annoyed me about torrents were that the downloads would take a while to pick up speed. And once they did, the constant download and upload would throttle the internet at home, making it unusable for others on the same network.

So, once I had made up my mind about moving away from torrents, where did I decide to move to? File hosters.

File Hosters Are The Answer

Unlike torrents, where there is no single repository for the file that’s being shared, file hosters host the same files on their servers (which is both a pro and a con).

You may remember names such as Megaupload or Rapidshare. There was a brief time when Megaupload was everyone’s go to website for downloading or watching movies. As the file is stored on the server, sites like Megaupload allowed users to download a file directly as long as they had the link. No waiting. No need for seeders and leechers. As long as the file was on the server, just click and download at full speed.

However, filehosters come with a catch – one has to purchase an account to unrestrict downloads and speeds. I started using Rapidshare, which was one of the more prominent file hosters back in 2009. What if I told you that there’s a way to access almost every file hoster out there, with only a single account? This is where multi hosters come into play.

Multihosters allow users to access 50-70 file hosting services with a single account. So instead of buying accounts with multiple file hosters, buy one which in turn unlocks all file hosters! How awesome is that?!

Again, there are numerous multihosters but I’ve been using, and highly recommend, Real Debrid since 2011 because it’s super easy to use, and very economical. Also, they give you 50 GB to store downloaded torrents! That’s right. They download the torrent for you, store the files on a server, and then you can directly download the files at your convenience!!!

Another advantages of multihosters is the speed. As you download the files from a server, the download is instant and speed is phenomenal throughout the download. Real Debrid claims that users can achieve speeds of up to 300 MB/s. Although that’s theoretical and it depends on multiple factors, I personally reach speeds of 240 MB/s. That’s 240 MB/s from start to finish with no need to upload!

So, allow me to give you a brief tutorial on how to download using Real Debrid to download your favourite TV Shows and movies.

How To Download Without Torrents

Step 1: Get Real Debrid

Set up a Real Debrid account. Their plans start as low as 3 Euro for 15 days (it’s seriously great value for what it does). Pick a plan that suits you the best. Start with the lowest plan if you want to test it first.

Step 2: Find Direct Download Websites

Find the movie, TV show, or music album that you wish to download. To get the latest movies or TV Shows I use RlsBB (alternative link). It’s a super neat site that lists down all the latest stuff that becomes available to download on the internet. Also, before you go downloading a movie or show, you should know the difference between a Scene Release, and a P2P Release.

Both these websites will offer you file hoster links for the download. Usually websites such as RlsBB show multiple file hoster options. Pick one that is supported by Real Debrid. Usually I go for RapidGator or Uploaded.

Copy that link (or links) and paste it in the Download section of Real Debrid as shown below.

Next, click Unrestrict My Links and voila, you’ll get a set of new links. Click on the link and start downloading! Super simple!!!

And speaking of torrents, if you still find it comfortable using torrents to download, I would highly recommend using Real Debrid’s torrent feature. Simply paste the magnet link, and Real Debrid will download the torrent onto a server and keep it there for you to download at any time. Then you just download it like a normal file. No seeding necessary.

So this year it was Kick Ass Torrents that got shut down. Back in 2008, it was Demonoid. Taking down torrent websites is nothing new. Sure, users will continue to keep jumping ship. Pirates will always find a way to share content. There was a brief period in time when I had gone back to using IRC to download files. It’s free, and it only looks complicated. Once you figure out IRC, it’s pretty simple to use to download files.

I tried IRC again this year. But I found the speeds to be a limiting factor. Real Debrid has its days, but it usually allows me to download at an average of 50 MB/s. IRC, on the other hand, didn’t really offer much beyond 16 MB/s on average. I seem to be going back to Real Debrid time and again because I honestly feel that it’s the simplest and easiest way to download stuff on the Internet. And it’s definitely well worth the price.
